I have to say, the electronic cigarette is my new favorite acquisition. I liked it so much, I sent one to my Mother.

Imagine, no more tar. No more inhaling the 4,000 chemicals and 40 known carcinogens that you get with a regular cigarette.

The electronic cigarette, according to Just Vapor, contains nicotine, propelyne glycol and/or USP glycerin, distilled water and flavorings, which creates a mist that you "vape," not smoke.

So, why are there such diverse viewpoints about the product?
The electronic cigarette is literally a wild, wild, west product. Created in China by a engineer who was tired of having to get up and go outside to take smoking breaks, the e-cig has exploded in popularity over the past two years. Especially since many smoking bans have gone into effect and multiple tax increases on cigarettes have occurred.

It's estimated that a million people have in whole or in part moved from regular cigarettes to electronic cigarettes. And that's a good thing, right?

Not according to the FDA, who found a minute trace of a carcinogen, about the amount you'd find in a piece of nicorette gum, in 1 of 18 nicotine/flavor cartridges it sampled.

Electronic cigarette users are crying fowl - because what they found was 1,400% less than what's in one cigarette.

So, on one hand you have the FDA trying to ban e-cigs, and on the other, you have users stocking up like mad men, trying to lay in at least two years of supplies before the hammer comes down.

The two lines I've heard the most often about e-cigs are, 1. "they have the same chemical as anti-freeze." And yes, they do. The chemical that anti-freeze manufacturer's put in their non-toxic mix.

The second line is that, "electronic cigarette manufacturers are trying to addict our children by supplying nicotine in flavors like cherry and chocolate."

Oh really, you mean the same flavors that nicorette gum, a non-prescription, over the counter, can be bought by anyone of any age, comes in.

Kids who start smoking use Marlboro Red and Camel. They want to look cool. And do me a favor, enforce the laws that state that kids can't buy tobacco products instead of raining on my parade.

In the meantime, I'll join all the other US users in stocking up on my favorite flavors and at least 2 years worth of equipment.
